Renfrew Announces Best in Show

Renfrew’s opening exhibits this year was the Fifth Annual Cumberland Valley Flora, Fauna, and Folkways art show.   The art show featured twelve dynamic artists. The art show was held inside the Wagon Shed located within the Visitors Center.  Park guests from all over the country walked through the art show that was our opening exhibit and on display for two and a half months.

Becky Dietrich organized the annual art show and was pleased with the turnout.  Dietrich, a local artist and writer, owned A Little Gallery of Mont Alto for twenty years.  She is still very active in the community and can be found sitting in the backyard of the museum house during the summer painting new creations.  At times small groups gather and enjoy lunch as they survey the scenic Renfrew landscape finding inspiration for their next work of art.

The Flora, Fauna, and Folkways art show featured over thirty works of art containing landscapes, animals, flowers and depictions of traditional ways of life in earlier times.

As our guests enjoyed looking at each of the art pieces we asked them to vote for their favorite picture.  At the end of the art show we tallied the votes and are pleased to announce the best in show belonged to Laura Lewis Shindle.  She painted “Farm with Charm.” Voting was incredibly close for the second and third runner-up which included “Waiting Patiently” by Laura Lewis Shindle and “Almost Hidden-Royer House Rabbit” by Kathleen Renninger.

We look forward to next years show and seeing the creative talents of the artists come up with using next years theme.   The art show was a success due to the hard work of Becky Dietrich in addition to all her artists and the numerous guests that stopped by and enjoyed the show.

Renfrew has a few upcoming events before the end of 2018.  To see the rest of our events please visit: www.renfrewmuseum.org or call the Visitors Center at 717-762-4723.
