The Chambersburg Hospital is accepting applications for its 7th annual Kristin Runyon Memorial Scholarship that will be awarded to two local nursing students.
This year, two $3,500 scholarships will be awarded to students currently enrolled in a full-time registered-nurse education program. The students must have a minimum grade-point average of 2.8 and be residents of Franklin County or the surrounding communities serviced by Summit Health. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one clinical rotation in the nursing core curriculum.
Applications can be obtained from the Summit Health Development Office, 785 Fifth Ave., Suite 1, or online at: www.SummitHealth.org/Runyon.
In addition to a completed scholarship application, those wishing to be considered should submit a cover letter, official transcript, one academic reference and a clinical letter of reference by June 30.
Runyon, who passed away in 2010, was a registered nurse at Chambersburg Hospital. A 2001 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, she received her EMT and licensed practical nursing degrees from Harrisburg Area Community College. Runyon received her registered nursing degree from Excelsior College.
Runyon’s family established the scholarship fund in 2011 to honor her memory and support the nursing education of future nurses.
“Kristin dearly loved the nursing profession,” said Barbara Runyon, Kristin’s mother. “As a nurse, Kristin enjoyed the challenge of critical thinking and interaction with her patients. She also respected the knowledge of her colleagues and the collaborative environment with physicians.”
